There’s no question that health and wellness are essential, and for many, Conway Regional Health & Fitness Center is crucial in obtaining and maintaining optimal health and wellness. COVID-19 forced many of us to temporarily consider life outside the walls of the fitness center. Thankfully we had the opportunity to reopen mid-May with restrictions and guidelines in place to make your return to the fitness center as safe and as welcoming as possible.
As you may know, the staff deep cleaned during the closure and reopened with strict guidelines and restrictions in place for your safety, as well as the safety of our employees. You can find a current list of our guidelines and restrictions linked in the yellow bar at the top of the website. Within the document, we cover everything from facility access and hours to cleaning protocols and detailed information on various amenities we offer. Some main points we would like to share include:
Cleaning and disinfecting practices.
We use EPA registered disinfectants throughout the facility that are effective against COVID-19. Staff circulates to clean equipment on a regular basis, in addition to specific areas being sanitized throughout the day. Members are expected to clean equipment before and after each use and additional cleaning stations have been added to help facilitate this. Staff also periodically makes overhead announcements regarding cleaning and reminds members in person when necessary.
Capacity limits for areas.
We were able to keep 90% of our equipment in use while fitness distancing all cardio and strength equipment 12 feet apart. We also moved equipment to the track area and the multipurpose area. We can have as many as 22 members in the Group Exercise Studio with social dots placed. The Spin Studio was relocated to our basketball court allowing 24 of our stationary bikes to be fitness distanced to allow a safe environment to return to classes. The pool has reopened for lap swimming (one member per lane) and adult exercise. Twelve- foot distancing must be observed for adult exercise and we are restricted to 50% capacity in the pool. The Play Center has reopened with reduced hours and a capacity of 25 children. At this time, children under the age of 12 may only access the Play Center.
Policies in place for employees, members and guests to help decrease the spread of the virus.
Pre-entry screening is required for all members and employees, including answering a list of questions and having their temperature taken. Masks are required to gain entry and while in common areas such as the locker room and main lobby. Masks are not required while exercising.
Some tips for members who are hesitant for their first visit back:
- Try to schedule your workouts when it is naturally less crowded. Weekday afternoons are generally slower.
- Be prepared to learn the new location of some machines and try to access as few pieces of shared equipment as possible (e.g., dumbbells).
- Sanitize, Sanitize, Sanitize. Although the fitness center regularly cleans and sanitizies equipment, you should take control of your personal sanitizing. Start by using hand sanitizer in the car after putting on your mask and before entering the building; after check-in, rewash your hands or use hand sanitizing stations located throughout the building.
- Exercise good judgment and do what's right for you.
If you are uncertain about returning, have underlying health conditions, worry about being in frequent contact with others, take your time in returning. Keep in mind, there are other ways to get moving! We offer Facebook Live videos on the Conway Regional Health & Fitness Center page including yoga, strength and Barre with Amanda Castillo.
If you would like to visit the fitness center for the first time since closure, we are happy to take you on a tour to highlight the steps we have taken for a welcoming and safe return.
